Skipper of the Week Charlie!!

We have our first Skipper of the Week- Charlie!! The class is enjoying learning more about our special friend and having fun hearing about what Skippy and Charlie did over the weekend!

Skippy is being used as an incentive for good behavior. I explained to the class that Skippy will only go home with those who do their best work and display appropriate behavior.

What a fun day!

Today was a blast in 4K!!!

We had our 5th grade buddies come in and work with us; and we made our first classroom book! The students collaborated very well with one another.

Next, we did some apple tasting and talked about the different characteristics of the apples (sweet, sour, hard, soft, crunchy, ect.). We graphed as a class "What's Your Favorite Color Apple?", and discussed which had more votes, and which one had the least amount of votes.

Lastly, we preformed an experiment! The Apple Volcanno!! We discussed what an experiment is, we made predictions, and talked about the experiments outcome. The students LOVED this!!! We probably preformed this experiment 5 times! :)

Friday September 25th Homework

Dear 4K Families,

I am sending home Number Practice Sheets to review the two numbers that we have been discussing about in class. You can see what those sheets are at the bottom. Please have your child complete those by Friday, September 25th.

When tracing, please make sure your child always uses a pencil. We are trying to teach the children that when we write or trace words or numbers, and when we write our name, that it is always with a pencil, never with a crayon.

Thank you for your support at home!

4K This Week! 9/21

Dear 4K Families,

Raise your hand if you LOVE Pete the Cat books! This week we will be doing an author study with "Pete the Cat" activities!

Which Pete the Cat book is my favorite? Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses! Its a wonderful mentor text for reviewing with children about speech bubbles, rhythm, rhyme, predictable text, sequencing, and the author's purpose for writing the story (moral).

This week Friday, we also will be celebrating Johnny Appleseed's Birthday!

On Thursday we will be taste testing different apples and graphing which flavor apple is our favorite!

On Friday, we will be making applesauce! Yum! But I need your help! If you could please have your child bring in two apples of different colors by Wed. September 23rd that would be wonderful!

Thank you so much in advance,
Ms. O'Brien

October 23rd -Volunteers Needed!

Its getting to be that time of year....Pumpkin Farms! On October 23rd we will be taking our first field trip to Godsell Farm, located in Muskego. While at Godsell, we will go on a fun hayride, interact with some farm animals, explore the farm, and of course....we will be picking pumpkins!

Due to the nature of many of your work situations, I wanted to give you an adequate amount of time to be able to request off. I am looking to have four parent volunteers join our class; unfortunately I can not except more than that. With that being said, the first four to contact me in regards to volunteering, will secure a spot for October 23rd. Keep in mind, volunteers must have gone through the Safeguarding course to be considered.

It should be a great time! :)
As we get closer to the date, you will receive a field trip form in your child's folder, that will provide you with more information in regards to the field trip.

Hope you and your family are having a wonderful weekend!

"Creepy" Veggies from our friend Gabe!

Today our friend Gabe brought us in some fun looking veggies that his family and him found! They even painted on some funny faces! The children found them to be so silly and funny!

We then read the book "Creepy Carrots" by Aaron Reynolds (on our Smartboard); about Jasper Rabbit who loves eating carrots, until the day Jasper thinks the carrots start following him!

Thanks Gabe for bringing your fun veggies in and sharing them with all your friends!

Weekend 9/19 Homework

Dear 4K Families,

We had a great week learning new songs to support our learning and enjoyed rhyming together!

This week I also tested your child to see where they are currently at, and if they are hitting the "learning targets" that are listed on the September Newsletter. Many students need extra practice writing their name. Keep in mind when working on this at home that ONLY the first letter in their name should be uppercase, the rest needs to be lowercase. We are also working on letter formation. Please use the "letter formation" sheet I sent home as a reference- I do observe how studnets are writing their letters.

Rhyming is also a skill that many of the students are struggling with- I ask that you play some fun silly games with your child to help them master this "learning target."

Attached also is two pictures of what you should find in your child's folder-just like last week. There is a cut and paste- please work with your child on using scissors the appropriate way and how to use a glue stick appropriately. We still have a few students who can't cut and it's making them become frustrated- please help your child by working with them at home on this skill. The cut and paste is to review our letter of the week. (When your child is writing the Upper and Lower Case Bb- Please make sure they are starting at the top to write and not the bottom up- use the Letter Formation sheet I gave you at Parent Night as a reference)

Also you will find a new "B" book. Please read this with your child, keeping in mind those early reading strategies- pointing to the title, using our pointer finger and using the pictures for "clues" to solve the words on the page.

Thank you for your support at home- it will make a difference in your child's education and success,
Have a wonderful weekend!

Brown Bear, Brown Bear...

Dear 4K Parents,

Retelling a Story:
Tomorrow, September 10th, your child will hear the story, "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See"; and will be making a "retell bracelet." This will be used as a tool to help your child recall events that occurred in the book.

Please encourage your child to retell you the story at home, using their created bracelet.

Our sensory table is sadly empty at the moment, and we are looking for donations of boxes of white rice.
